Be prepared !!
Once a girl scout; always a girl scout.
I must dedicate all my time and resources to being fully prepared for any disaster that may fall on us whether natural or otherwise. I have to teach my daughter to be able to defend herself and to be able to survive under less favorable conditions.
Our Disaster Preparedness Kit is well on its way. On this blog I will chronicle everthing I add to the kit, our evacuation plan, our emergency procedure plan etc.
So far I have a Red Cross First Aid Kit, a kitchen fire extinguisher

Using more technology in education
I am mostly 'for' the use of computers in education especially at a college level. I think it is essential for doing research and independent investigation on any given subject. I like the idea that there are so many different websites that one can visit in order to attain a vast amount of information and data. I am a strong advocate for programs like Mavis Beacon to help learn how to type, Microsoft Word, Works, Wordperfect, Office, Excel,Powerpoint etc all created to make our lives much easier. We realize that we too can create professional looking documents, websites and HURLs (like Blogs).
But the one thing about it all is that you need to be schooled to be able to understand the jargon, the computer lingo, the procedures and practices. It can be daunting for some. Some of our older citizens are computer illiterate and are proud of it. Some self taught and self professed may have missed some fine tuning and can create their own little havoc. The cost for technology is getting technical. Can we afford it, sure why not? More and more our youth is becoming efficient with the use of video games, DVDs,cd-Roms etc. There is an entire other language in cyber world, even our cell phones are in on it with emails and text messaging and the sort. With the introduction of web cameras and video conferencing we have full access to our families, friends, and others without them actually being there. Therein lies the problem. Can we really replace the actually being there. The reality is that people are attending eWeddings, and we can watch what our kids are doing every second of day care, and we don't actually have to sit in a classroom and share all that we have to share and listen to short stories, anecdotes, and life histories when we can get it all online.

How do I find the time
Luckily I have completed most of the assignments for this first week. But I don't have sound on my home computer and thats the hold up on my postings on Winner etc. I am confident that it shall be done before the deadline.
Just a short journal entry.
